QNAP Releases QTS 4.5.2, Enhancing SNMP and Adding Support for SR-IOV, Intel QAT, and Unveils 100GbE Network Adapter

  • Reading time:3 mins read

QNAP® Systems, Inc. officially released QTS 4.5.2, the latest version of QNAP’s advanced NAS operating system. Key features of the new QTS include enhancement of SNMP for network device monitoring and support for Single Root I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV) and Intel® QuickAssist Technology (Intel® QAT) passthrough to virtual machines (VMs). QNAP has also debuted its ultra-high-speed 100GbE network expansion card. With comprehensive enhancements to virtualization, networking, and management functionalities, QNAP NAS can assist businesses and organizations realize the highest performance potential for meeting current and emerging IT challenges.

Key new features in QTS 4.5.2

  • Enhanced Management
From access permissions, multi-device management, system logs, and troubleshooting, QTS 4.5.2 simplifies IT operational management and allows staff to focus their efforts on more important tasks.
  • Add QNAP NAS into Azure AD Domain Service
Microsoft Azure AD DS provides managed domain services such as domain join, group policy, and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP). By adding a QNAP NAS into Azure AD DS through site-to-site VPN connection or through Windows Server using Azure AD Connect, IT staff are free from deploying and managing domain controller locally, and have greater efficiency in managing user accounts and permissions for multiple NAS devices. It provides flexibility, scalability, and extreme convenience.
  • SR-IOV network virtualization
By installing an SR-IOV compatible PCIe SmartNIC in a NAS, bandwidth resources from a physical network card can be allocated directly to VMs. With traffic bypassing the Hypervisor vSwitch, it helps enhance I/O throughout and network efficiency by 20%, ensuring reliable VM applications and reduced CPU overheads.
  • Intel® QAT hardware accelerator
Intel® QAT provides hardware acceleration that offloads computationally intensive compression, improves IPSec/SSL cryptography performance, and supports SR-IOV for improved I/O throughput. All can be passed through to VMs on the NAS for optimized performance.

QXG-100G2SF-E810 dual-port 100GbE network expansion card (Available soon)

The QXG-100G2SF-E810 uses the Intel® Ethernet Controller E810, supports PCIe 4.0, and provides up to 100Gbps bandwidth to overcome performance bottlenecks. It supports Windows® and Linux® servers/workstations, allowing users to attain optimal business performance for a wider range of system applications and services. The higher bandwidth density with reduction in links help reduce cabling footprint and operational costs.
